Mt Elgon is an extinct volcano located on the border of Kenya and Uganda and offers a great opportunity for rock climbing. The mountain is known for its unique rock formations and challenging routes, making it a popular destination for experienced climbers.

Climbing Mt Elgon typically begins with a hike to the base of the mountain, where you will be able to see the various routes that are available. The rock on Mt Elgon is mainly basalt, which is a type of volcanic rock that is known for its excellent grip and durability. The rock is also relatively solid and not prone to crumbling, making it a safe option for climbing.

Climbing on Mt Elgon is done year-round, but the best time to climb is during the dry season between December and March. During this time, the rock is dry, and the weather is more stable, making for better climbing conditions. Climbing during the rainy season can be more challenging due to the wet rock and the potential for storms.

Climbing Mt Elgon requires a high level of fitness and experience. It’s not recommended for beginners or those who are not in good physical condition. It’s important to have the proper equipment such as rock climbing shoes, helmets, harnesses, belay devices, and other necessary gear.
