The Sipi falls nature walk is a popular hiking and sightseeing activity in Uganda. This walk takes you to the Sipi falls, a series of three beautiful waterfalls located on the foothills of Mount Elgon, in the Eastern part of Uganda.

The nature walk typically starts at the Sipi village called Kapkwirok. The journey starts by descending down to the valley through the gorge and the community land to the base of the first waterfall. The first waterfall, known as “Sep-Kapsururul” meaning Sipi Falls is the highest of the three falls with a height of 100 meters. From the base of the first waterfall, the hike takes you on a steep ascent through a ladder to the natural Kaptum caves, as you ascend to the top of the mountain view. While on the top, you have a chance to view the beautiful landscape along the Sipi river.

Next, you continue with the hike to the second waterfall, known as the chepkui, which is the smallest among all the falls standing at a height of  65 meters. It is here, where you find the man-made salty cave.  The walk continues from the bottom of the waterfalls by ascending through the beautiful landscape, rapid falls, natural swimming pool, coffee plantations, banana plantations, and traditional homestays unto the last waterfalls.

The last waterfalls, also called “Kapsurul chebukock”, stands at a height of 85 meters. This waterfall is unique among all the three waterfalls. It has a tunnel of 100 meters going underground: it has twin caves that were used for child namings, and wild bananas which were used by the sabiny years back as a traditional medicine for treating measles among small children. It also has a twin rainbow as its other unique feature.

It is important to be well-prepared for the nature walk, including bringing appropriate clothing and gear, such as waterproof clothing, hiking boots, and a hat as it gets hot sometimes during the hike on a dry season. The trail can be slippery when wet in the rainy season, so it is important to be careful and take your time.

Overall, the Sipi falls nature walk offers a unique and unforgettable experience, with beautiful landscapes, rich culture, and a chance to explore the natural beauty of the area. It’s an opportunity for adventure seekers and nature lovers to explore the stunning waterfalls, and beautiful landscapes and experience the culture and way of life of the local communities.

Memorable experience!

Moses was an incredible host and guide who made the experience very easy to navigate and educational. The walk itself was scenic and the coffee tour was very educational and fun to take part in. Even though it rained the whole second half of the walk, it was a wonderful and memorable experience that I would 1000/10 recommend anyone visiting Sipi to take part in.
